Morning talk with Austin

This morning, my better half and I were happily cuddling in bed, when Mr. Austin decided to pounce into our room.

Austin: "Dad, it's MY turn to snuggle w/ Mom now."

Eric: "But I want to snuggle too. Why can't we both snuggle with her?"

Austin: "Because I need my mom still. I'm only 5 and so I need my mom." (sniff, sniff)

Eric: "Don't you think we ALL need moms?"

Austin: "Well, Mom needs her mom because she is a cancer grown-up. So, she needs her a lot right now."

The things that this child understands truly astounds me. For only being 5, and for knowing very little about the scope of what we're dealing with right now and the big "C", he does get it. What a special, sweet spirit he has! Oh, I just love him!

Dear Christina,
Your blog makes my heart sing ... your strength and faith continues to be an inspiration to us all -- I can't imagine the challenge you have facing this 'big boy' (ha), but I think of you so often -- sending love, peace and healing. My grandaughter, Audrey, just asked when we are going to see Austin again! I told her he is busy with school and helping his mommy but that we will definitely have fun again at the Race for the Cure next summer. Take care and know that you are never alone! Lisa

Christina,
When you and the boys were here, I noticed in Primary over and over how very sharp Austin is--it's obvious he's getting a good gospel education at home, but also he's good at making connections. And he's high energy--a combination that will mean success for him all his life, I think. You are indeed blessed with a great family.
Love the blog! Good luck!

Hey girl! Long time, no see. :) I saw your link to this blog on facebook. Wow, you've had some tough times. I am so inspired by your strength and optimism. I'm sure many will be inspired by sharing this journey with you. I worked as an oncology social worker at UC Irvine Medical Center and met so many incredible people, with incredible stories. I had a patient who shared two quotes with me, that I just love. She said, "worry is like rocking in a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but it gets you know where..." She felt alot like you, that her energy needed to be put towards positive things. She would always say "I have cancer, but cancer does NOT have me." Anyway, just wanted to say hi. Good luck with this new treatment. Hang in there! ~Holly (Hanson) Dixon

Christina,

Thank you so much for sharing your personal story Christina! You have no idea how many lives you will bless from your positive example, clear perspective, and humble understanding of what life is really all about. I have a dear friend who is struggling with a new breast cancer diagnosis & am anxious to share your blog with her. My greatest desire for her is that she can too, like you, can come to know that despite what happens, all will work together for her best good and her families best good. We are so blessed to understand the plan of salvation and to KNOW our Savior. Best wishes to you & your sweet family! We think of you often. Love, Amye
